Genting Skyway

One of the most widely asked questions when addressing Resorts World Genting is how to get there. There is ample public transport available from the city of Kuala Lumpur for all who are interested to head up the mountain. It is literally a mere hop on a bus and a short cable car ride before you are at the peak! The travel will undoubtedly be scenic. One can expect nothing less from the World’s Fastest Mono Cable System and the Longest Cable Car in the Southeast Asia, the Genting Skyway.

The journey will most definitely leave you mesmerized as you cruise through the passing clouds, above the lush rainforest below. One can even catch a glimpse of the towns nearby as well as an aerial view of the bustling city of Kuala Lumpur. If thick mists set in to envelope the gondola, you can easily rediscover peace and serenity amidst the freshness of the crisp cool mountain air.

Officially opened by our fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on 21 February 1997, the Genting Skyway was constructed at cost of RM128 million by Leitner Spa, Italy using the ‘ Hang-dug Caisson’ foundation. The Caissons method is about the safest and strongest foundation in existence, designed specifically for hilly terrain.
Spanning a distance of 3.38km, with the maximum speed of 21.6 km per hour/ 6 metres per second, the Genting Skyway has the capacity to carry 2,400 persons in an hour with 8 passengers per gondola.

It goes without saying that the safety of passengers is paramount. Each pylon is accessible via rescue tracks on the ground, whilst each gondola is equipped with radio communication equipment from the stations. The computerised system of the Genting Skyway is able to prompt the cable car to slow down in order to adjust to the surrounding weather. It will also stop for the elderly and disabled in order assist them in boarding the gondola. The entire system with high-tech electronic equipment was built in accordance with stringent Swiss regulations, and it has double safety circuit that is completely independent. And like all machines, the Genting Skyway functions optimally with frequent maintenance.
It is safe to say that the Genting Skyway is like no other, passengers are presented with the rare opportunity to soak in the sights and sounds of the intricate web of flora and fauna that make up the 100 million year old rainforest that surrounds the resort. At an affordable rate of RM 5 each way, the Genting Skyway is definitely an experience not to be missed!
